Aaron Kernaghan, our Special Counsel, is an active member of the European Criminal Bar Association (ECBA). Since its inception in 1997, the ECBA has evolved into the foremost independent organisation comprising specialist defence lawyers across all Council of Europe countries.
The ECBA is dedicated to promoting the fundamental rights of individuals under investigation, as well as suspects, the accused, and convicted persons. This commitment ensures that justice and fairness are upheld within the legal processes.
The ECBA is composed of specialist defence lawyers from the member countries of the Council of Europe. The association welcomes membership from all legal professionals, including practising lawyers and academics, who are aligned with its objectives.
Consistently, the ECBA organises conferences in both spring and autumn. These events serve as platforms for members and non-members alike to convene and discuss the latest advancements and issues in European criminal law.
As an engaged member, Aaron actively contributes to the ECBA’s initiatives. His involvement encompasses providing insights and recommendations on proposed legislation, consulting for European institutions, and participating in discussions concerning best practices and the universal standards of fundamental rights within the context of criminal law.
